Battery life is the number one complaint smartphone users have. While you cannot change the laws of physics, these 10 tips will help you get significantly more life from every charge.

1. Lower Screen Brightness

Your display is the biggest battery drain. Use auto-brightness or manually lower it to a comfortable level. This alone can add 1-2 hours to your battery life.

2. Use Dark Mode

On phones with OLED displays (most modern smartphones), dark mode uses significantly less power because black pixels are turned off entirely.

3. Turn Off Always-On Display

The AOD feature is convenient but uses 1-2% battery per hour. Turn it off if you need to maximize battery life.

4. Manage Location Services

GPS is a heavy battery drain. Set location to "While Using" for apps instead of "Always." Turn off location entirely when you do not need it.

5. Disable Unnecessary Notifications

Every notification wakes your screen and processor. Disable notifications for apps that do not need them.

6. Use Wi-Fi Instead of Mobile Data

Wi-Fi uses less power than 4G/5G. Connect to Wi-Fi whenever available.

7. Close Background Apps

Apps running in the background consume battery. On Android, check Settings > Battery for apps with excessive background usage.

8. Enable Battery Saver Mode

Both iOS and Android have built-in battery saver modes that limit background activity and reduce performance slightly to extend battery life.

9. Keep Your Phone Cool

Heat degrades battery performance. Avoid leaving your phone in direct sunlight or in a hot car.

10. Update Your Software

Software updates often include battery optimization improvements. Keep your phone updated to the latest version.

Bonus: When to Replace Your Battery

If your phone is over 2 years old and battery life has decreased significantly, consider a battery replacement. It is much cheaper than buying a new phone and can restore near-original battery life.
